Meet our Featured Artist, Mike Dwyer

Person wearing hearing protection, safety glasses, and gloves operating a handheld power tool at a workbench.

Mike’s journey into sculpture began with his lifelong fascination with the natural world. With a Master’s degree in Wildlife Biology and Ornithology, he first worked as a biologist in Kansas and Nebraska, studying the birds and wildlife that captured his imagination from an early age. That deep field experience soon became the foundation for his art.

He began carving waterfowl and songbirds out of basswood, then in 1989 discovered the Lost Wax Method of bronze casting. Working in clay and wax and casting at local foundries in Loveland, Colorado, he found a medium that could fully express his vision. His sculptures, celebrated for their authenticity and vitality, quickly earned him a place in fine art shows throughout Colorado, Arizona, and beyond.

Since 2014, Mike has worked as a full-time sculptor, creating bronze works that honor the beauty, movement, and spirit of wildlife. His pieces are informed by years in the field and a biologist’s eye for detail—bringing scientific precision and artistic expression together in timeless works of art.

Based in Loveland, Colorado, Mike continues to exhibit his bronze collection at fine art shows across the country. When he’s not in the studio, he enjoys bird watching, golfing, hunting, and fishing with his wife and their four children.
