Downtown Carefree transforms into an open-air gallery for the Thunderbird Artists Festival, with the streets closed to make way for over 165 artists and more than 5,000 truly unique works of art. From petite pieces to monumental installations, there’s something for every art lover: eye-catching bronzes, dynamic metal and stone sculptures, luminous glass, intricate woodwork, and bold mixed media creations. You’ll find stunning pottery, captivating photography, handcrafted jewelry, batiks, and distinguished fine crafts. The lineup of paintings is impressive—oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, charcoal, etchings, and fresh mixed media, spanning every style from classic Southwest and wildlife to vibrant contemporary abstracts.
But it’s not just about the art—the Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festivals turn the scenic Sonoran Desert into Arizona’s ultimate sensory escape. Immerse yourself in Arizona’s largest wine-tasting event, with premium selections from world-class vineyards. Purchase our engraved souvenir glass and wine tickets. Savor bold reds, crisp whites, and creative blends. Chat with winemakers as you sample, learning about what sets each pour apart. Pair your wine tastings with decadent chocolates, an ever-changing soundtrack of ambient music, and the rustic-chic buzz of local crowds.
After soaking in the art and wine, be sure to check out Carefree’s vibrant shops, galleries, eclectic boutiques, inviting restaurants, and charming outdoor cafés—all just steps away.
Join us at the historic crossroads of HoHum and Easy Streets, downtown Carefree. Festival hours are 10am–5pm daily. Admission: just $5, with free parking all weekend. Whether you’re a casual browser, a serious collector, or a wine connoisseur, this festival serves up an unforgettable, all-senses celebration for everyone!
Meet our Featured Artist, Fred Stodder
Fred Stodder is a ceramic artist from Laguna Beach, California, who began working with ceramics at age 16 and later earned a BFA from the University of California, Irvine. His studio is now in San Juan Capistrano. Stodder’s ceramic pieces are exhibited nationwide, have won many awards, are included in notable collections, and have been featured in major arts publications.
Unlike traditional ceramics, his work is known for its sharp edges, vivid colors, and precise glaze lines. Stodder draws inspiration from ceramic traditions, modernism, architecture, and jazz music. He works primarily with white earthenware clay, bisque-fired, and uses airbrushed underglazes for color gradients as well as both translucent and opaque low-fire glazes for solid colored sections.
